Boy, attacked by mum dies 2hrs after admission in hospital

The 13 year old boy, Prince Obioma Odum set on fire by the mother, Chinyere Odum for taking her memory card is dead.

It had been reported that the ugly incident happened at Umuloghe Agbolughe of Amuzukwu Ibeku,Umuahia Abia State on Monday.

Father of the deceased and an estate manager, Obioma Odum, 66, who confirmed the incident said the boy died at Federal Medical Centre Umuahia a night after being admitted into the hospital.

“I was not at home when the incident happened. The boy just finished his common entrance (Examination) and was always at home while his siblings go to school. I was at my place of work when my elder brother called me that my wife and the friend took my son into the kitchen and that they covered the boy’s mouth with tape.

“He said they Poured him Kerosene and set him on fire. By the time I got home, the youths had gathered in my house. I understood they took him to Police Clinic (Central Police Station), Umuahia. We were later referred to Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.

“They asked us to come the next day and take the boy to UNTH Enugu. But he died in the night. I have been in peace with my wife but my mother and my younger brother took her to a place after which she turned something else. There was a time she broke my head with cutlass for asking her to severe a relationship with one boy.”

The youth president Mr. Iheanacho Nwakanma, when contacted, confirmed the ugly incident and went further to inform that he received a call from his community of what was going on, and he first reported the case at the Central Police Station in Umuahia, which now gave him two policemen, who came with him and arrested the mother of the deceased with an accomplice.

“On Monday at about 12 00 hours. We got call about fire incident we rushed to the place. We discovered that the victim prince Obioma Odum inside the kitchen where he was tied by her mother. We rushed the boy to hospital. The mother escaped but through the sister we tricked her to return home that the matter has been handled.

“When we got to police clinic they told us that the if the burn exceeds 50 percent that the boy will not survive. The doctors asked us to prepare to take him to Enugu. The doctors informed us this morning that the burn exceeded 50 percent and that the boy died over the night. The mother and the friend who aided the crime are in police custody at Central Police Station, Umuahia.

The woman has a history of bad records few years ago, she had cut the boy with knife. Last year she attacked the husband with machete, the man almost died. She was arrested and bailed later by the husband later. I am not surprised”

An uncle to the deceased Honorable Jasper Odum, who said he was around when the incident took place condemned the wicked act perpetrated by the brother’s wife, saying that this it was not the first time she is doing something crazy, he disclosed that the woman used cutlass on his brother in several occasions, and called that justice should prevail in the case.
