Amadeus University Holds Its Second Matriculation Saturday 

...As National Universities Commission Approves Commencement Of Medicine, Law, Pharmacy

The management of Amadeus University, Amizi in Ikwuano local government area of Abia State has announced that its second matriculation will hold tomorrow, Saturday, February, 28.

The Amadeus University is a private, not-for-profit institution located in Amizi, Ikwuano LGA, Abia State, Nigeria.

 

It was founded by Dr. Godwin Nwabunka, a development economist and founder of Grooming Centre, to provide high-quality, practical-oriented education.

The university began academic activities in September 2024 and operates with full approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC).

 

It currently offers 22 degree programmes across seven faculties, including:

Science and Computing: Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Software Engineering.

Allied Health Sciences: Nursing Science, Public Health, Medical Laboratory Science, Physiotherapy.

 

Social and Management Sciences: Accounting, Economics, Mass Communication, Business Administration.

Engineering: Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

 

The NUC recently approved programmes in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS), Pharmacy (Pharm.D), and Law (LL.B). Admissions for Law are slated to begin in the 2026/2027 academic year.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Samuel M. Nzotta in a media chat disclosed that out of 95 students who were granted admission into various faculties in the school, 85 of them as at Thursday have accepted their offer of admission, while others are expected to complete their admission and registration processes before close of work on Friday.

Prof. Nzotta who listed some of the achievements the school has recorded in the last one year, also disclosed that the university has gotten the nod of the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the commencement of three new programmes to include Medicine and Surgery (MBBS), Law (LLB) and Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D), effective 2025/2026 academic session.

 

The VC added that the university which had in October 2025 played host to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), Abuja, who came on an advisory visit is hopeful that the NMCN would give them approval for Nursing Science programme.

The VC, who stated that the school boast of requisite laboratories and among others for its medical students, also disclosed that the school has plans for the establishment of a modern and well equipped Specialist Hospital within the campus community.

 

He further disclosed that the university management recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, Abia State Specialist Hospital and Diagnostic Center, Umuahia, for Clinical Training of MBBS and Nursing Science students, Hospital based training of students of Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Physiotherapy and Public Health students, adding that their partnership with Topfaith University, Mkpatak and Ashesi University in Ghana would enhance faculty/student exchanges, research and capacity building for enhancing quality of scholarship, improving student outcomes in leadership entrepreneurship, ethics and employability of their graduates.

Prof. Nzotta who disclosed that the management over the year has been working on improving the infrastructure in the university, said that work has been completed on the construction of a 106 bed capacity hostel facility for their students, adding that while the Central and Law libraries have been stocked and upgraded with over 10,000 new volumes of current textbooks, journals and online resources, the Faculty of Law building complex has reached an advanced stage.

 

According to him, as part of effort to ensure that the students were also equipped with skills and vocational training aimed at also making them not just employable, but job creators on graduation, the school has established a General Studies and Entrepreneurship Development Center on the campus.

“The university has instituted an effective Quality Assurance System to ensure that academic standards in place meet the National Universities Commission benchmarks, industry standards and global best practices. The focus is on enhancing the university and faculty levels, quality assurance. The quality assurance standards monitors performance standards in all the facilities and evaluate the report to ensure that the standards are sustained.

 

“The university management has put in place measures to fast track research processes and outcomes in the university. The research processes are being properly institutionalised, in addition to the key issues of building capacity. The management is consciously building capacity on the key research teams to elevate the quality of the research in the university.”

He also disclosed that through their partnership with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the university will be granting admission to some Nigerians from some Internally Displaced Camps (IDP) in the country.
