Four In Critical Condition As Aircraft Crash-Lands In Imo Airport

Four occupants of a chartered aircraft with call sign ASR, registration number 5N-SKR, a C-172 aircraft operated by Sky Power, Kaduna havr been left in critical condition as their aircraft crash lands Tuesday night at the threshold of Runway 17, Sam Mbakwe International Airport, Owerri, Imo State.

 

Sources at the airport disclosed that the light aircraft, Cessna 172, encountered difficulties during landing, leading to loss of stability on the runway, and subsequently somersaulted before coming to a halt within the airport premises.

The incident was said to have triggered panic among airport personnel and onlookers.

 

A close source at the airport said no life was lost in the crash.

 

Emergency response teams were said to have been swiftly deployed to the scene, where the injured occupants were rescued and immediately rushed to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment.

Airport officials who spoke anonymously confirmed that the four victims are currently receiving medical care, and their condition was described as stable as of the time of filing this report.

 

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, NSIB, was said to have commenced a formal investigation into the incident to ascertain both the immediate and underlying causes of the crash landing.

The investigation, information has it, is expected to focus on the aircraft’s technical condition, prevailing weather conditions, pilot actions, and other operational factors surrounding the occurrence.

It was gathered that airport operations were temporarily disrupted following the ugly incident.

Another source however disclosed that normal activities were later restored after safety officials secured the affected area.
