Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic Staff, Students, Hold Thank You Rally For Gov Otti 

...As Management Endorses Otti For Second Tenure

It was a fanfare within major parts of Aba metropolis on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, as staff and students of the Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, Abia State, took to the streets of the commercial nerve of the state to hold a “Thank You” rally for the Governor of the state, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti.

 

The rally led by the Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Christopher Kalu Okoro, who was flanked by members of his management team, had over 500 participants in attendance.

For some of the participants, who disclosed that they have never had a long walk over two decades ago, their participation in the rally was one of many ways they can show gratitude to God for giving Abia State a governor like Otti and to also thank God Otti for breaking jinx and writing his name in the sands of time in the history of the polytechnic.

 

The staffers and students also said that the reason for their participation in the rally was to also thank the governor for gifting the polytechnic a young pragmatic, foresighted, dynamic, focused, humane rector and a leader with great vision for not just the polytechnic community, but for entire state at large.

They equally said that they want to use the rally to thank the governor for the various infrastructural development that the polytechnic has witnessed under the present administration, including but not limited to improved internal road network, enhanced learning condition, promotion with benefits, clearing of salary arrears owed by previous administrations in the state, regular payment of salary, leave allowance, payment of pension and gratuity to disengaged staff and among others.

 

For the participants, the rally was not just a “Thank You”, but a solidarity match to also assure the governor of their firm support come 2027, warning that there is no vacancy for any other person contemplating to run for the office of the governor in the state in 2027.

This is as they also endorsed Gov. Otti as their sole Governorship candidate in 2027.

The rally which had a long motorcade, saw the staff and students move from the Polytechnic premises through Aba-Owerri road to major parts of Aba.

 

Addressing the staff and students after the rally, the Rector, Engr. Christopher K. Okoro thanked them for coming out to join the management in showing their appreciation to the governor of the state.

 

The Rector who recalled how the polytechnic has moved from where it met it to where the institution is at the moment, thanked Governor Otti for finding him worthy of piloting the affairs of the polytechnic.

 

Engr. Okoro represented by the Deputy Rector Academic, Dr. Fijoh Kalu Ome, disclosed that it was under the present management that students that convocations are held the same year students graduate and their results given to them on the day of their convocation.

He also informed both staff and students that lectures would resume at the permanent site of the polytechnic in Osisioma local government area of the state on January 6, 2026, while only a few departments would be operating at its Abayi temporary site before joining others at the Osisioma campus, afterwards.

Also in their separate speeches, Mrs. Rosemary Uwa-Jerry, Head Of Department, Central Stores and also the Woman leader Abia Arise, Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic chapter, Lady Ngozika Chukwu, Dr. Nwokocha O. Eze, Director Medical Services and a member of the Governing Council of the polytechnic corroborated the Rector and thanked the governor for the support the state institution is enjoying from him.

The respondents while promising the support of the polytechnic community for the governor, begged governor Otti not to relent in giving the school and its management the support; financially and otherwise, to continue driving his visions for the polytechnic.
