Abia State Government has commenced the second phase of its 2025 teachers recruitment programme, aimed at addressing gaps in public schools, particularly in underserved rural and riverine communities.
The State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education announced that the online application portal will be open from 6 November to 19 November 2025.
Officials explained that the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the teaching workforce and improve learning outcomes across the state.
A statement signed by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Elder Goodluck Ubochi noted that application is free and must be completed online through the ministry’s official website.
Interested candidates will undergo a computer based screening, after which successful applicants will be invited for an oral interview.
According to the statement, only candidates below 45 years of age as at 31 December 2025 are eligible to apply. Applicants are required to hold a minimum of the Nigeria Certificate in Education, with degree, masters and doctorate holders also encouraged to participate.
The ministry emphasised that shortlisted candidates could be deployed to any part of the state, including remote areas, to ensure equitable access to qualified teachers.
It added that persons with disability who possess qualifications in special needs education are eligible to apply.
While individuals without teaching qualifications can submit applications, the government stated they will be required to obtain relevant certification within two years to have their appointment confirmed.
The recruitment initiative aims to boost education quality across Abia by ensuring classrooms, particularly in rural locations, are staffed with qualified teachers, supporting equitable learning opportunities and strengthening the state’s educational infrastructure.
Authorities also advised applicants to ensure that documents uploaded are accurate and complete, stressing that names entered during registration cannot be changed at any stage of the recruitment process.
