The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Abia State Command, has announced the arrest of 9 suspected vandals in Umuelechi community in Ukwa West local government area of Abia State.


The suspects, were identified as Chima Ginikanwa (M) aged 36 from Isiala Mbano, Imo State, Wisdom Uduak (M) aged 16 from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Sunday Edihl (M) aged 32 from Ogoja, Cross Rivers State, Susan Simeon (F) aged 50 from Onitsha, Anambra State, Star and Thomas (M) aged 24 from Obingwa LGA.
Others include Victor Williams Umah (M) aged 26 from Ohafia LGA, Ikocha Nnamdi (M) aged 35 from Obuzor in Ukwa West LGA, Onyeyirichi Omenihu (M) aged 25 from Ukwa West LGA, and Blessing Chima (M) aged 33 from Umuelechi, Ukwa West LGA all in Abia State.
The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Doreen Udugwu who confirmed the arrest of the suspects, said their arrest was made possible through a credible intelligence.
According to Udugwu, the arrest of the suspects was in line with the directives of the NSCDC Commandant General, Associate Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi.
She further hinted that the NSCDC Anti-Vandal Squad equally dismantled a syndicate involved in operating an illegal refinery in the state.
According to her, some of the exhibits recovered were 7 Sacks filled with 50 liters of crude oil.

While appreciating the efforts of the public who volunteered information to the Command, which led to the successful, she added that the State Commandant of the federal government agency in-charge of protecting government and public property, Akinsola Aderemi is calling on all and sundry to always provide useful and timely information to the Command to enable it curb the menace of oil theft and other criminal activities of saboteurs in the state.
