The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu has approved the immediate withdrawal of the appointment of Dr. Alozie K. Nwamuo as the Acting Rector, Abia College of Health Sciences and Management Technology Aba.
A statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barr. Chris Ezem on Tuesday said that the state government took the decision on the heels of a subsisting security report surrounding Nwamuo’s appointment.
Our correspondent reports that the appointment of Nwamuo, a staff of the School of Health as the acting Rector was greeted with mixed feelings as many alleged that he had a reported rape case against him, which he is yet to prove his innocence.
According to Barr. Ezem, the governor of the state has further directed that the Head of Department of Public Health, Ezeakolam Nwaogwugwu be appointed as the Acting Rector of the college.
The appointment according to the SSG takes immediate effect.
Recall that Nwamuo and Haglar Okorie were yesterday appointed acting rectors of the Abia State College of Health and Abia State Polytechnic, Aba respectively after the governor of the state approved the suspension of Professor Chigbu Lawrence Nwaneri and Prof. Kalu Osonwa respectively.
The reasons for their removal were not given by the state government, but opposition parties and political watchers opined that the removal of the duo couldn’t have been unconnected to the abysmal performance of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in polling units in their schools in February 25 Presidential and National Assembly elections.
