The Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji has requested the medical team of Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia, to work assiduously and ensure that the two surviving children of a family, Mr & Mrs Kelvin Uzuegwu, that lost four members in a fatal road accident were revived and given adequate medical attention.
The Speaker who has already sent funds to FMC for the revival and treatment of the survivors also called on public spirited Abians to join in coming to the aid of the children.
The accident which occurred on Sunday near Osisioma junction claimed the lives of Mr & Mrs Kelvin Uzuegwu, their last child, Master Delightsome Uzuegwu, all of whom died at the spot while their second daughter, Praise, later died at the hospital.
The family from Olokoro in Umuahia South Local Government Area of the State was said to be traveling to Port Harcourt from Umuahia after attending a wedding in the Abia State capital on Saturday.
According to eye witnesses, the accident occurred when a woman, who also died in the accident, was trying to cross the expressway and in a bid to avoid hitting her, Mr Uzuegwu tried swerving the car away from her but she eventually got hit while the car rammed into a stationary trailer thereby resulting into the fatalities.
The Chief Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, Prof Azubuike Onyebuchi said the medical team is doing everything possible to revive the first daughter who has remained unconscious while treatment for Divine, the first son, is going on with intensity.
He thanked the Speaker for reaching out and for sending funds for their treatment.
The Speaker who expressed shock over the sad incident condoled with the bereaved relations and their friends and said although he never knew the victims in person but he had to respond quickly when he was told about the incident by a concerned Abian.
