The November 6th governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo has began lobbying the support of Anambra Stakeholders and PDP bigwigs as well.
Infonet9ja.com gathered that the move was a quick and anticipated one following the controversy surrounding his emergence as the flag bearer of the party in the just concluded governorship primary in the state which has caused so much bad blood among the party aspirants and faitful that have described the primary as a charade and show of shame.
Inside sources told infonet9ja.com that the meeting of the PDP bigwigs of Anambra extraction was coming behind his (Ozigbo’s) meeting with the 2019 presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar in Abuja, shortly after he had went to pick his certificate of return.
One of the sources disclosed that the meeting with the PDP aspirants and opinion moulders was one of the importance of post-primary unity and has reached out to co-aspirants and party leaders to ensure the PDP wins at the poll.
Among Anambra PDP top political brass met were Sen. Uche Ekwunife of Anambra Central Senatorial District and runner-up in the PDP governorship primary, Sen. Stall Odua of Anambra North Senatorial District and former Minister of Aviation during President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration; Mr. Osita Chidoka.
Engr Chris Azubogu, lawmaker representing Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency who was also visited by Oziogbo congratulated him and assured of his support and co-operation towards winning the November 6th guber poll.
“We agreed on the need to sustain his ongoing reach out to other leaders of our state so that we all will be on the same page towards winning the election and driving the state development,” Engr Azubodu said.
It was gathered that the meeting with Atiku Abubakar was a closed door, but a source closed to Atiku’s camp centered on how the party can strategies and ensure that they win Nov. 6th, 2021 governorship election in the state.
“In the past few years, the PDP has shown readiness to evolve and be more democratic. This new direction is evident by the goodwill my candidacy has received since my emergence on Saturday.
“I have started the process of ensuring that every stakeholder is on the same page as we approach the November election,” Ozigbo, the PDP candidate stated.
It was gathered that the likes of Dr. Comos Maduka who felt aggrieved over the conduct over the conduct of the primary is seeking another platform in continuation of his push to become the governor of the state, a move many said will definitely backfire.
Congratulating Ozigbo, one of the aspirants, Dr Tony Nwoye, affirmed that the party delegates have made their choice and urged other aspirants to work with Ozigbo to ensure victory at the November 6, 2021 polls.
He went ahead to express willingness to work with Ozigbo, advising him to extend the olive branch to other aspirants and party stakeholders who might feel aggrieved with the outcome of the process.
Mr Oseloka Obaze, the PDP candidate in the 2017 governorship election in Anambra,, congratulated Mr Ozigbo on clinching the party’s ticket. Obaze also pledged to support him ahead of the election.
“There’s more work left to do to capture Govt. House, Awka, and reunite our great party ahead of the November 6 elections. We must also all rally to the cause and collectively work hard to reconcile our party.
“As a PDP stakeholder, I offer my full and unalloyed support to Val personally and the VCO team in the campaign ahead and in every effort to rebuild our party. Now that the primaries are over, I call on all the PDP aspirants to come out and fully support Mr Ozigbo so that we can collectively achieve victory on November 6, 2021,” Obaze remarked.
“Your way pleased God, and he gathered unlikely men to work for you. I say congrats to you once again, and I urge you to focus on God and not little gods for your eventual success,” said another aspirant; Chief Emeka Etiaba (SAN) who also congratulated the PDP flag bearer whom he described his victory as “God-delivered”.
“I congratulate Val Ozigbo and my Party, PDP, and I promise to work for our collective success,” said Dr Ifedi Okwenna in a statement.
Lady Chidi Onyemelukwe, a former aspirant, congratulated Ozigbo, describing his victory as a reflection of the people’s voice.
“I congratulate my friend and brother Valentine Chineto Ozigbo on his emergence as the flag bearer of our great party,” Lady Onyemelukwe wrote.
“The people have spoken; God has spoken. Our main journey as the PDP family to the seat of government house Awka starts in earnest. I urge our entire PDP family to put hands together to ensure that this becomes a reality come November 6, 2021. It is long overdue. Together we can, and together we will!”
