Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi gets knock for abandoning Umuahia-Enugu rail line

Abia residents have expressed their anger over the decision of the Federal government through the Ministry of Transport to construct railway from Nigeria to Niger Republic.

The residents are demanding that the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi should as a matter of urgency find ways to reactivate the Umuahia Enugu Rail line which they said was a better means of transporting goods from the east to other parts of the country.

They lamented that the inability of the past and incumbent administration has caused motorists to turn the rail line in Umuahia, the state capital to loading bay.

“Shown in the pix is a rail line that passes through popular Isi gate in Umuahia, Abia State, our transport minister and our dearest president is determined to the construction of rail line to Niger Republic while the one in Umuahia has been converted to a motor park.

“I could remember those days in 80s and 90s when the rail line was functional.

Oil and so many goods are being transported to the North via Uzuakoli and Enugu while cows were being transported to the popular Gariki at Umuhia.( gariki was situated at Amuzukwu off Umuwaya road, exactly where we have shoprite in Umụahia)
