Breaking: Abia Schools to resume Monday Sept 28

Abia State government on Thursday evening announced that both public and private Primary and Secondary schools in the state would be resuming academic activities on Monday, September 28.

This was disclosed by the state Information Commissioner, Chief John Okiyi-Kalu in a press release issued at the end of the State Executive Council Meeting held at the Banquet Hall of the state government which was chaired by the Executive Governor of the state, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu.

Okiyi-Kalu in the release stated that the decision by the state Executive Council to allow for school resumption in the state was to give primary and secondary schools the opportunity to conclude 3rd term activities for the 2019/2020 academic session.

The Information Commissioner who disclosed that schools would be allowed to use one week for revision classes, added that a third term promotion examination is expected to commence on Monday October 5 and end on Friday October 16.

He added that activities for 2020/2021 first term academic activities for both primary and secondary schools in the state are expected to commence on October 26, with teachers going on break for one week, to enable them mark and compute promotional examination results.

Okiyi-Kalu who further disclosed that the Exco also approved the resumption of academic activities in tertiary institutions stated that management of schools would announce dates for resumption of their respective institutions in accordance  with the timetable and protocols submitted to them by the state government.

“The Honorable Commissioner for Education, Dr. K C Nwangwa will publish other details related to school resumption including protocols to ensure the protection of school children from COVID-19 infection, approved fees chargeable by private schools and other guidelines.
