Abia State on Sunday topped the chart of states in the country that recorded new COVID-19 cases.
This was disclosed in a Sunday post on the official twitter handle of the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC); @NCDCgov.
According to the post, there were 260 new cases of COVID-19 in the country on Sunday.
Abia State led the chart with 67 new cases, seconded by the Federal Capital Territory with 40 new cases.
Lagos State, the epic center of the pandemic recorded 38 new cases with Ogun recording 19 cases, Gombe 16, Edo 14, Imo 9, Kwara, Nasarawa and Borno recorded 8 new cases as Bauchi and Ekiti recorded 5 and 4 new cases respectively.
Ondo, Plateau, Kano and Sokoto were the least on the log as they recorded 2 cases each.
NCDC tweet read “Abia-67 FCT-40 Lagos-38 Ogun-19 Gombe-16 Edo-14 Imo-9 Kwara-8 Katsina-8 Nasarawa-8 Borno-8 Kaduna-6 Bauchi-5 Ekiti-4 Niger-2 Ondo-2 Plateau-2 Kano-2 Sokoto-2.”
The NCDC added that with the latest record, Nigeria now has a total of 12486 cases of COVID-19 cases, adding that 3959 have been discharged with no of Deaths at 354 since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country.
Recall that the chairman of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Abia State chapter, Dr. Carol Iwuoha in an exclusive interview told this platform that the medical personnel in the state are not surprised at the rising case of COVID-19 in the state attributing it to community transmission of the virus.
Sources said that the rise in the number of cases in the state couldn’t have been unconnected with the aggressive of citizens and residents of the state by the state government.
