There were palpable fears among shoemakers at the Powerline axis of Ariaria International Market as one of their popular customers reportedly died in a popular hotel located at Powerline, off Faulks Road, Aba Abia State.
The death of the deceased, whose identity is yet-to-be known was said to have jilted many of her customers who had contact with her before her death, as they feared that the woman could have died of COVID-19.
Others also feared that she could have died of other underlying health issues that are not known to them.
The deceased, who is a Kaduna based business woman is said to be a regular visitor at the hotel as she lodges at the facility whenever she visits Aba for business transactions.
According to information, the woman who deals on footwear died some days after arriving Aba from Kaduna State.
Sources said that the body of the deceased was evacuated from the scene to the Abia State Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH), Aba, under the supervision of police personnel from the Abayi Police Division; under whose jurisdiction the incident happened, after the management of the hotel informed them of the incident.
Some of the sources in the market that who described the woman as a well-known person among the shoemakers confirmed that the woman has been buying footwear from some of them over the years.
They said that the woman didn’t show any sign of ill-health eve before her death, which was why some of them suspected that she may have died of any other underlying ill-health apart from COVID-19 that was their initial suspicion.
A source in the Abia State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that it was a case of sudden and unnatural death.
“The woman from preliminary investigation was having hypertension and Diabetes. She has been coming to Aba and has been a regular customer in the area.
“Whenever she comes from the North, there is a woman whom we understand is a relation that assists her because of her health condition. Both of them have been lodging in that hotel for a very long time.
“From what we learnt, the body was examined by officers that were at the scene. If there were any foul play, they would have spotted that on examining the body of the woman.
“From what we learnt, the woman slept in the hotel with a relation that does assist her whenever that she comes to Aba because of her ill-health. The relation alerted the manager who in turn alerted police.
