The Abia State government has announced the closure of over fifty private owned schools across the three Senatorial Zones in the state.
In a release signed by the State Commissioner of Education Hon. Kanelechi C.K Nwangwa, the owners of the schools were directed to close down forthwith, failure to which government shall employ all necessary legal means to enforce compliance.
Infonet9ja.com had reported that the Abia State government in an apparent move of ensuring that Abia children were properly educated in the right environment and by the right teachers announced that it will be clamping down on private Nursery, Primary and Secondary Schools presently operating in residential buildings.
Investigation by our reporter has it that many private schools in the state are operating in uncompleted buildings while others operate in shanties, subjecting pupils and students to harsh learning conditions.
According to our reporter, some of the schools don’t have restrooms and when it does, do not meet the hygienic standard befitting schools where students of future Nigeria is being taught and raised.
The State Ministry of Education in the release by the Education Commissioner stated that the schools were closed for various offences that could affect effective teaching and learning processes in the affected schools.
