Abia govt to partner FRSC in reducing accident rate

Abia State Government said that it will be partnering with the State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to minimize road accidents during in the state ahead of the Yuletide period and beyond.

Governor Ikpeazu who was represented by his deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu when he received the Sector Commander of FRSC, Abia State Sector Commander of FRSC; Meschack Jatau and key Officials who were on a courtesy visit at the Government House, Umuahia said that as a responsible government that would not want to lose its citizens or visitors to the state to road accidents, will work assiduously in ensuring that Abia roads are safe for use by motorists within the Ember months.

Oko Chukwu who disclosed that the State owned traffic management agency (TIMASS) was setup to assist in ensuring the free flow of traffic on roads in the state and as well discipline traffic offenders, used the opportunity of the visit to laud the FRSC command for creating awareness on accident prevention and management through their sensitization programmes at the state and local government levels.

He noted that the activities of the FRSC and their members in the state apart from trying to save lives and instill discipline among road users, has assisted various state governments in the area of revenue generation and urged them to continue to collaborate with the state government in its bid to increase its internally generated revenue drive.

Earlier in his address, FRSC, Abia Sector Commander, Meshach Jatau disclosed that they came to intimate government on the various programmes embarked by the command to encourage and educate Road Users on safety measures and the need to ensure an accident free Ember month.

Jatau used the opportunity of the visit to announce that the Command has established Abia State Road Safety Advising Council Committee with the Deputy Governor as its chairman and commended the state government for establishing the Traffic and Indiscipline Management Agency Abia State  (TIMASS ).

He announced that the command will from October, 2nd embark on the enforcement of the use of the new plate number and driver’s license to checkmate accidents on the highways.
