Abia PDP House of Rep aspirant dies days after picking nomination form

Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abia State chapter have been thrown into mourning on as news filtered into the state about the reported death of a House of Representatives aspirant for the 2019 general election from the state who died allegedly after picking nomination form for the office for which he wants to contest for.

 

It was gathered that the PDP Aba North and South prospective House of Representative candidate identified as Hon. Egwuatu Egbulefu is among the myriad of PDP members including Hon. Blessing Nwagba, incumbent Abia State House of Assembly member representing Aba North State Constituency and Uzo Azubuike, former Aba North and South federal lawmaker (between 2011-2015) and presently commissioner of Agriculture in the state that are aiming to unseat the incumbent, Hon. Ossy Prestige of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in 2019.

While information about the cause of the aspirant’s death at the time of this report were still sketchy, information gathered by our reporter has it that the House member died days after picking up the nomination form at the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata House Abuja last week.

Sources close to Egbulefu when contacted said that they were yet to have official communication from the deceased family and the party, at the time of filing the report.

They however confirmed that late Egbulefu had gone to Abuja to pay and collect his expression of interest and nomination form to among other party faithful contest for Aba North and South federal constituency seat ahead of the PDP state primaries.

 

According to them, the aspirant when they saw him last didn’t show any sign of unhealthiness. This is even as they stated that they weren’t aware if the prospective Aba North and South lawmaker was having any internal sickness before his death.

The sources who pleaded that their names should not be mentioned in print said that they were scheduled to meet with him this week.

They described his death as a big blow to the party and the people of Aba North and South federal constituency, stressing that they were convinced that deceased would have been a better representative of the people as he possessed the right qualities of a good leader, party man and mouthpiece that delivered democracy dividend to the people of his constituency.

Efforts to reach the party for comments proved abortive as the former spokesman of the party was said to have resigned his position for a State House of Assembly seat.
