FRSC convict forty four motorists convicted in Anambra

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State Command Mobile Court in Awka has convicted thirty four motorists for various road traffic offences.

The Anambra State Sector Commander of the Corps, Mr. Sunday Ajayi while speaking to journalists, disclosed that the measure will go a long way in reducing road traffic accidents, and ensure safety of motorists and commuters on the highways.

Mr. Ajayi explained that the Mobile Court is the best way to try road traffic offenders because they receive fair hearing and restated the determination of the Corps to reduce the rate of road traffic crashes in the state, adding that the mobile court proceedings would be a routine exercise.

He admonished drivers to ascertain the condition of their vehicles before plying highways, desist from over speeding, overloading and dangerous overtaking especially during this rainy season.

While sentencing the thirty four persons arraigned before the court, the Magistrate gave them various jail terms ranging from two months in prison with option of fines.

The offences committed ranged from expired driver’s license, seatbelt violation, and absence of fire extinguishers, number plate, worn-out tyre, failure to install speed limiting device, road obstruction, and assaulting of FRSC Marshal on duty as well as reckless driving among others.
