Abia PDP sets to welcome former vice President, Atiku Abubakar on Friday

All is now set for the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State to successfully host former Vice President and 2019 Presidential hopeful of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar.

 

Abubakar who hasn’t been in the state infonet9ja.com gathered that Abubakar who would be arriving the state on Friday July, 13 in the company of his team and other allies through late Sam Mbakwe Airport in Imo State already had his advanced team on ground.

 

Fillers within the party has it that the former Vice President on arriving the state will pay courtesy call on the governor of the state, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu before heading to the party’s secretariat at Finbarrs road in Umuahia, the state capital where he is expected to address members of the party.

A  source who said that Atiku would be the first PDP Presidential aspirant to visit the state urged other aspirants to follow suit, stressing that time has gone when an aspirant would be voted for based on “Abuja connection”, as the party is determined to right the wrongs of the past.

 

In the words of the source “We can only vote for someone who campaigned well. Atiku has been touring other states of the country while others are relying on their Abuja connection. That is no longer going to work. They must meet would be delegates and stakeholders and unveil their agenda and by such, provides the delegates the opportunity to access their individual strength and weaknesses.

“We must field the best of the candidates to fly the flag of our party in the presidential contest. We need somebody that will be acceptable to Nigerians. Someone that can get votes from east, west, north and south; we need someone that has reach. One thing I can assure Nigerians is that by 2019, we will not only get power from the APC, we will ensure that we present a candidate that will end the killings and hunger in the land.”

Recall that Atiku has visited Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta states respectively in recent times where he solicited for the votes of would be delegates to the party’s presidential primary and assured that he was going to lead Nigeria out of its present state if he becomes the president of the country. This is even as he stated that he has the capacity to dislodge the President Muhammadu Buhari’s led APC government which he was instrumental to its victory in 2015.
