The pastor in charge of Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Solid Rock Parish Umuahia Abia State, Rt. Rev. Peter Nwoke has cautioned his colleagues in the pulpit against accepting tithes and offering obtained through crookery and fraudulent means, saying receiving such is tantamount to committing crime.
He spoke on the sidelines of Sunday worship where he encouraged his congratulation to cultivate the spirit of paying their tithes, but only from legitimate means.
The cleric urged pastors to always identify the sources from which members bring in their tithes before releasing blessings upon such.
On means of identifying sources of tithes, he said, “As a pastor, you must know that you are called to salvage people from sin through the preaching of the word of God. As a pastor, your faith must not be compromised, God said I will give you pastor, not everybody that is a pastor is a pastor.
“Those who are truly called by God fear God, because it is a fearful thing to fall into the hand of God. Anybody that wants the right thing to be done should preach righteousness”, he stated.
He also cautioned believers against failure to pay tithes, saying it is a means to support the less privileged members of church.
According to him, one of the benefits of payment of tithes is God’s preservation of believers’ means of income and resources.
“When you don’t pay tithe, you open your blessings to devourers but when you pay your tithe, God owes you the responsibility of protecting resources, health, family, business and everything you lay your hand on”, he stated.
