The Abia State Police Command on Monday handed over ₦5m cheques to the families of a deceased policeman and another who were killed by unknown gunmen in Aba, the commercial nerve of the state.
The families of the policeman; late Inspector Oyibo Shehu and Mr. Victor Godliveth who was said to be another victim that also died during the shooting spree got ₦3.5m and ₦2.5m respectively.
Late Shehu, before his death had served with the Aba Central Police Station (CPS); where he became famous among the locals, before he was later transferred to the Rapid Response Squad of the Nigeria Police Force, with its operational base in the Aba North local government headquarters premises.
Shehu and Godliveth were killed on Sunday, July 20, around Ngwa Road by Mosque while police who were on stop and search operation in the area were attacked by yet-to-be identified gunmen that fateful Sunday morning.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Maureen Chinaka disclosed that the money handed over to the deceased family members came from the governor of the state, Dr. Alex Otti.
The statement read “Today, 30/09/2024, the families of late Inspector Oyibo Shehu and late Mr. Victor Godliveth, who tragically lost their lives in the line of duty on 20/07/2024, were presented with cheques by the Abia State Government.
“The family of late Inspector Oyibo Shehu received a cheque of 3.5 million Naira, while the family of late Mr. Victor Godliveth received a cheque of 1.5 million Naira.
